concerning microscopes--we were always told you could damage the very expensive lens
Why wouldn't you "barrel down on a slide using the course adjustment knob?" Is it b/c the slide will break?
Yeah, unless you're looking at a very rare specimen or a difficult to prepare sample, nobody really cares about the slide. Lenses, on the other hand, are precisely machined optics and are easily susceptible to scratches and damage.
Reply:if your talking about a microscope, then yes it is because the slide cover will break because it is made from thin glass
