Depression and failing college courses?

I am going to fail 2 of classes. I havent been to either class or done the work in 3 weeks. I have just been really depressed. They are my earliest classes, and its been a struggle for me to get out of bed in the morning. I really have to talk myself into getting up at all, then when I am finally at school I feel so horrible, that I cant be normal and sociable like everyone else.

I hate PR/journalism...it just sucks...I only tried it out as a major b/c I get so much pressure from people telling me that I am a great writer but I hate journalism and english classes....they bore me to tears, the papers suck, but I did enjoy the reading.

Now that I will probably fail these two courses, what can I do? It'll look so bad on my transcripts...Idk, what to do about this depression, my life is a mess, nothing, and I mean nothing in my life is organized from my room, to my back pack, even my thoughts...

I have spoken w/ a counselor before (useless) Ive taken meds too idk what else to do

Depression and failing college courses?
I have been in your situation believe me. Don't let this affect your GPA becaue it will be HARD to get it back up. This is what you can do though:

First, make some lifestyle changes. You think you're disorganized, get rid of some things, clean, clean clean. (I actually did this when I was depressed in high school). This might also mean changing to a major that fits you or even getting out of the environment that you are in and transferring to another school.

Second, to try to fix this GPA see if your school as a Disability Services office and tell them that you have seen a counselor and that you are depressed and that you feel miserable. They might be able to get you some Incompletes (though with an I you would have to finish the class at some point or it turns into an F), or a W (withdrawl).

Third, do some soul searching and find out what is making you feel so down. I can't say because I don't know you, but perhaps school isn't what is making you down at all. If you can at least find the root of the problem it will be easier for a counselor to help you straighten out the problem.

Good luck on your classes, but like I said, don't let this affect your grades.
Reply:Talk to your professors about possibly doing some make-up work to pull up your grades. If that doesn't work, and you're absolutely certain you will fail the courses, speak with an academic adviser at your school about withdrawing.

A "W" looks a lot better on your transcripts than an "F".

As for your depression, you say that you enjoy reading, so continue to read. This may help to take your mind off whatevers stressing you. Good Luck!
Reply:Read books about cognitive therapy. You are smart and can figure out how to cope with changing majors and finding something you will enjoy. It might be best to take a semester off and go home. Talk to your parents and get on the road to getting through the depression. Just because one counselor is not for you does not mean that there is not one out there who can help you.
Reply:Do you know what,it is only a probability that you may fail the two course, it is not certain that you will fail, there is still time to make up and believe in yourself
Reply:im having similar issues to your concerns. and i try to deal with the problems more positive and optimistic way as long as there is not a clear solution for the conflict. at least the employers wouldn't take very serious look at the transcripts nor the GPA - that you dont even have to submit your GPA on your resume. though it depends what career you're looking for after graduation, i'd recommend you don't take too seriously the grades because it might cause the depression and anxiety, and rather try to look forward to more brighter parts of your major and career path.
