I'm a computer science major with the option of either taking c++ or java courses, which one is more desirable for an employer?
Should I take c++ or java?
Java is based on C++ so definately start with C++ and move into Java from there. C++ will also prep you well for a host of other languages including C#.
Additionally, a class in C++ is probably going to be a bit more theoretical than a Java class so you can learn the extremely important fundamentals of coding.
When the prof starts talking OOP don't fall asleep, this is when it gets cool.
Reply:It depends on which area of Computer Science you are wanting to move in to.
If you wish to do more web-related things such as webapps, then Java is the way to go.
But C++ is good if you plan to be creating and designing programs for companies.
Reply:Learn C++. It's more difficult--but learning Java afterwards will be a snap (doesn't work the other way around). And as a CS major you should seriously learn how to deal with pointers, linking, garbage collection and a few other things that Java protects you from.
It's good for you.
